Nuestra Historia

Durante más de 50 años, NCA ha evolucionado junto con Nosara, desde una pequeña asociación comunitaria hasta convertirse en una creciente organización de conservación que trabaja para proteger los bosques, la vida silvestre, el agua y el acceso público a la naturaleza.

1969-1972
Fundación

The vision for Nosara

American developer Alan Hutchinson acquired more than 1,100 hectares of a big cattle ranch in Nosara with the vision of creating a low-density coastal community integrated with nature.

1975
Primera limpieza

The Birth of NCA

When key infrastructure and community services were not delivered as planned, residents came together to form the Nosara Civic Association (NCA), laying the foundation for community organization and environmental stewardship in Nosara.

1975-1980
Programa Tortugas

Building Community Infrastructure

NCA helped support the development of essential services in Nosara, including electricity, roads, public services, and early reforestation efforts in Playa Guiones.

Sendero Interpretativo

Protecting the Refuge

NCA donated part of its land to support the expansion of the Ostional Wildlife Refuge, reinforcing a long-term commitment to conservation and coastal protection.

Alianza MINAE

Environmental Education & Recyclingh

NCA began promoting environmental education, recycling initiatives, and community awareness around conservation and sustainable stewardship.

Programa Educativo

Expanding Protected Forest

Through land donations and conservation efforts, NCA strengthened its reserve system, helping protect more than 250 hectares of forest in Nosara.

Apoyo Comunitario

A Broader Visino for Nosara

NCA expanded its focus beyond individual projects toward long-term territorial planning, sustainable growth, and district-wide environmental stewardship.

Observatorio de Aves

Environmental Recovery

After decades of community advocacy, the closure of the local garbage dump marked an important environmental milestone for Nosara and surrounding communities.

Premio Nacional

The Nosara Wildlife Corridor

Today, NCA is leading the development of Costa Rica’s first community-driven wildlife corridor based entirely on voluntary conservation agreements between private landowners. The organization currently protects more than 652 acres of forest and continues building a growing network of conservation areas, wildlife connectivity, and free public trails across Nosara.
