About us
Vision
A thriving and serene Nosara
Mision
To increase biodiversity and promote community planning
1969 - 1972
The Beginning Of The NCA
Between 1969 and 1972, American developer Alan Hutchinson purchased three farms with a total area of 1,110 hectares (2,718 acres) in the community of Nosara – a small community of farmers and ranchers. To create a sustainable residential complex.
1975
The Association
When Hutchison could not fulfill his agreement to provide the amenities, owners united to form the NCA, with the purpose of protecting the environment and providing residents with basic services.
1975-1980
First Essential Services
Water, electricity, roads and security were the NCA priorities. Electricity was provided to town from the NCA’s generators, wich were operated by volunteers, on a temporary basis.

1985
Refuge’s Extension
The NCA donated part of our properties to be included within the Ostional Refuge.
Nosara’s airport, Post Office, Police station, ICE office and telegraph office opened during that time with NCA aid.
1992
Recycling Approach
NCA members started working on recycling promotion and education among the inhabitants.
2004
The Reserve
The Association receives a land donation and completes its 250 hectares.
2014
District Commitment
The NCA applies new mission and vision statements to reflect our interest in the sustainable development, as well as expand our zone of action to include all the Nosara District.
The first steps to provide our District with a Regulatory Plan were taken.
2020
Dump Closure
After more than 20 years of struggling with trash disposal in our district, the garbage dump located between Arenales and Pelada was closed.
Thanks to NCA, the Municipality of Nicoya started garbage collection in Nosara, taking the waste to the Santa Cruz landfill.
2023
Today
Nowadays, the NCA has over 200 members who make possible our operation.
Recently, the NCA committed to run Friends of Nosara to gather and support all Nosara’s NGOS. Also, we are currently leading the “Calle Modelo” project, the first public/private initiative, wich will renovate the Guiones Main Street.
