If They Knock On Your Door, It Could Be The National Census

Date

These days, at any time, officials from the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC) could knock on our door to ask us questions about the National Census.

We at the Nosara Civic Association want you to feel safe, so that’s why we will explain how it works.

What is a census?

The census is a statistical tool that allows the country to know for example how many inhabitants there are, how many of those are foreigners, what their economic income is, what their home conditions are like, among other data. To obtain this information, around 1,800,000 households throughout Costa Rica will be interviewed.

Thanks to these statistics, the country will have new insight on the current situation and based on this they will develop indicators of poverty, unemployment, migration, education, and more.

How to recognize official officials?

All INEC officials will be wearing a gray and blue vest. They carry an official card, where it says the full name and ID number.

With that identity card number, you can call the official line 1421 or contact Whatsapp 8302-0505 to verify if the official who is in your house works for the INEC.

Around 14,500 people, including coordinators, supervisors and census takers, will be the ones who will collect the information for this 2022 National Census.

What days could they come around your house?

Any day from June 8 to June 28. Includes weekly fines.

Is it the first time it happens in Costa Rica?

No. This is the eleventh time that the National Population Census has been carried out.

Why is there also a different Census in La Esperanza de Nosara?

Parallel to the National Census, in the community of La Esperanza de Nosara, a team of students from the University of Costa Rica will carry out a census together with the personal doctor of Paradise Medical Services. This survey will be conducted only on June 17 and 18. The intention of this survey is to understand how much population there is in Esperanza and also to know the medical needs that can be found in that community.
