Calle Modelo – Improving Nosara’s Mobility

Date

Downtown Guiones will have a brand new main street in the upcoming months!

What is Calle Modelo?
Calle Modelo was born as a project in 2021 because of a budget item in the budget of the Nicoya Municipality. The project is centered on the main street leading to the beach – from Cafe de Paris all the way to the beach entrance. Calle Modelo is a meeting point for both public and private investment. Since the Muni granted the money for paving, the business neighbors of the route got together to financially contribute to make the project more ambitious. Drainage systems, sidewalks, parking lots, crosswalks and small roundabouts are now possible thanks to those funds. This will result in a safer and better experience for pedestrians, drivers and all who use this very busy street.

NCA’s role
The NCA’s role in Calle Modelo is to work as a bridge between the local government and the business neighbors – coordinating and keeping track of the phases of the project, as well as the issuing of permits to build the drainage system on the edges of our properties to avoid floods during the rainy season. During 2022 Calle Modelo was a large part of NCA’s work plan. Many hours were spent coordinating all the efforts to make it possible. Our hope is that when completed it will be used as a model for others to replicate in their neighborhoods.

Start Date

Currently the parties are checking the last details on the contracts and necessary legal procedures. Hopefully the work will start during the next weeks. The full work will take aprox 3 months to complete.. Exact dates will be confirmed and announced publicly through our social media.

How will it impact the businesses around?

Calle Modelo will improve the mobility for everyone, as it is one of the main tourist streets in our district. Over 60 businesses and at least 200 direct employees of the businesses, will be impacted by this. The work will require partial or total street closures as well as some water interruptions.. Due to heavy machinery working in the area, expect to experience an increase in traffic congestion and maybe a temporary decrease in the number of tourists. Please take note to rearrange your operations, marketing strategy and create solutions for your customers. We will keep everyone informed through our social media, of the progress of the work and of any closures needed.

The following business have signs or operate inside the municipal street area. The signs need to be removed by April 4th.We ask you to please remove them by that date or the work team will remove them. The team will be as careful of the structure of the sign as possible, but cannot ensure the preservation of it.
